You have probably heard us mention RFAL (radiofrequency-assisted liposuction) technology quite a bit recently, as we’ve been excited to add this new technology to our practice. This minimally invasive procedure from InMode provides amazing liposuction results without scarring, without the need for a hospital visit, or any of the other downsides of traditional surgery. So just what IS RFAL? Read on for the details!
Radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (which is used in BodyTite, FaceTite and AccuTite) is a relatively new, procedure that uses thermal energy to promote skin tightening and remove unwanted fat. The use of radiofrequency waves compliments traditional liposuction techniques by dissolving fat and inducing collagen production for firmer, tighter skin.
How is radiofrequency-assisted liposuction performed?
Radiofrequency-assisted liposuction is performed under local anesthesia by our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons right here in our offices. We make a small incision in the treatment area and insert a radiofrequency transmitting electrode. Radiofrequency waves are then guided upwards through the fatty tissue using another electrode, which also serves to ensure that the treatment area doesn’t get too hot.
As the radiofrequency waves liquefy the fat, it is immediately suctioned from the body via the cannula. The radiofrequency waves also stimulate the production of collagen beneath the skin, making the treated area appear firmer and more toned.
What are the benefits of radiofrequency-assisted liposuction?
One of the main benefits of radiofrequency-assisted liposuction is that it’s minimally invasive, requiring only very small incisions and typically done while the patient is awake under local anesthesia. Scarring is also minimal, and the chances of infection are reduced. The patient also experiences less bruising, pain and/or discomfort during the recovery period.
What areas of the body can be treated with radiofrequency-assisted liposuction?
Treatment areas include your chest, thighs, flanks, back and bra-line, arms and abdomen, as well as the face, especially cheeks, jawline, nasolabial folds, forehead and neck. We can also treat smaller areas like the brows and around the eyes include the undereye, the folds of skin between nose and mouth, your chin and jawline, and even your knees!
Who is a good candidate for radiofrequency-assisted liposuction?
Ideal candidates for RFAL are in overall good health but have stubborn areas of localized fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Although radiofrequency-assisted liposuction reduces body fat, it is not a weight loss surgery and severely overweight patients are not typically good candidates for the procedure. To find out if RFAL is right for you, schedule a consultation with our one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.
