Customized Mommy Makeover Treatment Plans in Plymouth & Hyannis

While women understand that their bodies will significantly transform during their pregnancies, many women are surprised to learn that their bodies may not return to their pre-pregnancy state. While some women may look close to how they did before their pregnancy after a few months, many women deal with changes that seem completely irreversible. It is common to be frustrated by loose, stretched-out skin, sagging breasts, and other changes that aren’t going away. It can be disheartening for women who are doing everything right in terms of diet, exercise, and recovery to notice that these changes to their bodies are not reversing.

Fortunately, at Cape & Islands Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Michael Loffredo & Dr. Seth Jones, created tailored treatment plans called “mommy makeovers” that address a variety of different goals.

Breast Enhancement

It is very common for a mommy makeover treatment to include breast augmentation. Sagging breasts after pregnancy are a common concern. Of course, different patients can approach breast surgery in a variety of ways. For example, patients may want a mastopexy or breast lift, or they may be a better fit for breast implants. Likewise, some women may consider breast reduction surgery. Our experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons have helped hundreds of women make these decisions based on their wealth of knowledge and experience.

Tummy Tuck

An abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a surgical procedure that includes the removal of both excess skin and fat. During pregnancy, the abdominal area transforms significantly. Beyond just growing larger, the abdominal wall can separate, known as diastasis recti. Abdominal separation can lead to a visible bulge around your belly, even after losing the weight that was gained during the pregnancy. A tummy tuck helps resturcture the abdominal wall as well as remove the excess skin around the abdomen.

Liposuction

Liposuction is also an extremely common procedure within a mommy makeover treatment plan. While a tummy tuck involves the removal of excess skin and fat, a liposuction treatment only removes excess body fat. It is often combined with a tummy tuck procedure so that other areas like around the hips & waist can also be addressed. Our team also utilizes revolutionary non-surgical, minimally invasive liposuction treatments like BodyTite which uses RF technology to eliminate fat cells.

Common Questions About Post-Pregnancy Body Transformations

There is a common and harmful myth that circulates, especially online, that every woman can recover their pre-pregnancy body based purely on lifestyle decisions, including diet and exercise.  The reality is, every woman’s post-pregnancy recovery journey is unique, and while there are some women who seem to bounce back quickly and are confident and sharing those stories, there are millions of women who do everything right, but still have aesthetic concerns. There are many factors that play a role, from genetics to the specifics of a woman’s pregnancy. Pregnancy is a significant body transformation, and putting all of the pressure on an individual’s lifestyle is unrealistic.

Diet and exercise are crucial to your health and recovery, and they definitely help women get closer to their pre-pregnancy weight in the months following their child’s birth. However, loose skin, separated abdominal muscles, or sagging breasts cannot be addressed through diet and exercise.

It depends on a patient’s individual circumstances. While diastasis recti, or abdominal muscle separation, can be improved through exercise, physical therapy, and core-strengthening, there are many cases where abdominal surgery is the most effective solution. Oftentimes surgery is recommended to patients who have tried, and even some success, with exercise & lifestyle changes but have hit a wall. A tummy tuck surgery specifically addresses the structure of the abdominal wall, which is why it is so commonly a part of mommy makeover treatment plans.

Yes. A mommy makeover is simply a customized treatment plan aimed at addressing the areas of the body most significantly impacted by pregnancy. There are a variety of minimally invasive or non-surgical treatments patients can consider. Here at Cape & Islands Plastic Surgery we provide treatments like BodyTite which is a radiofrequency assisted liposuction treatment. This treatment is less invasive than traditional liposuction. Likewise, treatments like Quantum RF, laser skin resurfacing, Morpheus8 can all help decrease the visibility of stretch marks and tighten loose skin. Finally, treatments like EMSCULPT NEO help strengthen and tone the abdominal muscles, which can help patients supplement their workouts.

Weight gain is a part of pregnancy. Returning to pre-pregnancy weight differs strongly from woman to woman and is impacted by diet & exercise, genetics, and other factors. In the first two months postpartum it is common to lose a significant portion of teh gained weight as the uterus shrinks and remaining fluids are flushed out of the body, but it can take six months to two years to return to your pre-pregnancy body weight. In fact, many women report that they look about six months pregnant for the two-three months after giving birth. And in some cases, there are patients who do not returns to their pre-pregnancy weight. Even with weight loss, issues like loose skin can still be a significant issue that harms a patient’s confidence.
