Botox Cosmetic Injections

Botox is a neural modulator that is used to treat lines in the forehead including the glabella region (the area where horizontal lines stitch across the forehead), the “elevens” (two vertical lines that appear between eyebrows), and for crows feet (small lines that appear on the outside corners of the eyes). Fillers are non-surgical injections that help to plumb the lips, treat the area of the skin around the mouth, nasolabial folds (skin folds that extend from the nose to the mouth), as well as lift the cheeks to create more of a higher cheekbone look.

When a patient initially comes into Cape & Islands Plastic Surgery for their consult, we like to discuss their goals, their budget, and their expectations before making recommendations on what injectable treatment will work best for them.

Botox takes anywhere from five to ten minutes once a consultation is finished. Fillers take just slightly longer around 15 minutes.

With Botox injections, you will typically feel a little bit of a pinch. Injectors can use ice for any discomfort. Patients usually do not need any numbing for Botox. With filler injections, we may use topical numbing with lidocaine in it.

For Botox, results come anywhere between 3 days and 1 week. For fillers, the results are essentially instantaneous, however it takes a few days for the fillers to fully settle and get your final results.

The most common side effects to fillers or Botox would be some bruising, swelling, or pain at the injection site. That bruising or swelling can last anywhere from a day to a week. There are a few things you can do to avoid these side effects like take arnica starting a few days before your appointment or eat fresh pineapple.

If you are not happy with your filler treatment, there is a medication that we can use to dissolve it.
