The Zoom Effect is Real

Home The Zoom Effect is Real

Since March 2020, life sure has changed. New words such as social distancing, zoom and quarantine became part of our everyday vocabulary, and most people spent more time at home than ever before. Not only that, but they also spent more time online and on social media, video conferencing multiple times a day in some cases with friends, family, and coworkers they used to see face-to-face. Because of this, more people seem to have taken notice of the parts of themselves they aren’t so happy with, and appointments for cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery have skyrocketed nationwide.

Non-Surgical Aesthetic Procedures for the Face

Here at Cape and Islands Plastic Surgery, we’ve had patients tell us they decided to book an appointment after endless days staring at a closeup of themselves on Zoom. From forehead wrinkles to undereye bags to double chins, videoconferencing seems to accentuate some of our least favorite features, and no amount of makeup, good lighting or camera angles can change that! Botox, fillers and CoolSculpting have been particularly popular as they can treat different areas of concern on the face and neck, which are typically the only parts shown (or at least zoomed in on!) on video calls.

Why More People Are Getting Botox Because of Zoom

There may be other reasons for this “Zoom boom” too. Besides seeing yourself up close daily, people also have more free time and are more easily able to work from home or have a flexible schedule, allowing for time to book treatments and also for any necessary recovery or downtime. Particularly with plastic surgery that may require some recovery time at home, or with certain laser treatments that may need healing time, those requirements are a lot easier for people to meet now.

Frequent mask-wearing is another contributing factor to the boom. Many patients are seeking skincare treatments to combat “mask-ne,” and there is also a growing interest in eye-area procedures since that is one of the only areas visible when masked up.

Why More People Are Using Non-Surgical Body Contouring Procedures

People have had their routines upended in many cases over the last 18 months. Those that stuck to a strict workout regimen and eating habits may have found that the interruption in their routine led to a bit of weight gain or less muscle tone. EMSCULPT and CoolSculpting are popular treatments for those who work out and eat healthy but need a little jumpstart or extra help.

An Increase in Men Getting Aesthetic Procedures

Another interesting phenomenon is that more men have been booking treatments, especially Botox. From video calls to social media to dating apps, men wanting to look their best are finally appreciating the advantages of Botox and other dermal fillers and the stigma of these being female-only treatments is completely gone.

If you’re thinking about getting that procedure you’ve always wanted, or trying Botox or fillers for the first time, consider a free consultation with our team of experts first. We can help guide you through the process step by step, from determining the best treatments to meet your beauty goals to creating a budget and scheduling appointments. From zoom the conference room, we’ll help you look and feel your best!
