The Shape of Things: 10 Interesting Facts About EMSCULPT

EMSCULPT is part of a new wave of body-contouring treatments that can deliver sculpted abs, arms, legs and booty without breaking a sweat—a workout without working out. While there’s no magic bullet to a toned body, patients see stunning results over a two- to three-week period. EMSCULPT’s visible results even inspire and motivate patients to start working out and going to the gym more regularly.  While the revolutionary muscle-building procedure is not for everyone, board certified doctors Dr. Michael Loffredo and Dr. Seth Jones and the highly experienced team at Cape & Islands Plastic Surgery will carefully review your options, discuss your body goals and help you decide if this noninvasive procedure is a good fit. Consultations are available at any of our four offices in Hyannis, Plymouth, Falmouth and Sandwich. Continue reading to learn more about who is an ideal candidate, how it works and why this is a game changer in the field of body contouring.

1. EMSCULPT Uses Cutting-Edge Technology

The EMSCULPT machine produces high-intensity electromagnetic energy that triggers muscle contractions. The procedure helps build muscles and gives patients extra definition in the abs, thighs and arms. For the buttocks, it lifts and strengthens the glutes.

2. Who is the Ideal Candidate For EMSCULPT?

Someone who is already in good shape (within 20 pounds of ideal weight) and one who desires better muscle tone and definition. This is not a treatment for weight loss. It’s perfect for a person who works out but desires to get rid of stubborn areas of fat. EMSCULPT is popular with both men and women.

3. What Happens During The EMSCULPT Treatment?

A typical EMSCULPT treatment is around 30 minutes. The patient simply lays down on a table and paddles are strapped around the stomach and buttocks. There are also smaller, curved applicators for the calves, thighs and arms. Although it’s not painful, the muscle contractions create a tingling sensation and might make you laugh a little! The paddles cause the muscles in the treatment area to rapidly flex and relax, imitating the same effects of a traditional workout, however, with much more defined targeting.

4. 20,000 Crunches + Squats in Just 30 Minutes

In 30 minutes, your stomach is performing about 20,000 crunches or squats in 30 minutes. On average, patients who have received EMSCULPT treatments have seen 16% increases in muscles mass and 19% decrease in body fat in the treated area. Like a targeted workout, EMSCULPT is effectively causing your muscle to flex and relax. However, instead of having to do thousands of crunches and squats, the treatment is done for you.

5. Is There Downtime After EMSCULPT?

Out of all of the body-contouring nonsurgical procedures out there, EMSCULPT is probably the most manageable with no downtime. EMSCULPT won’t leave any bruises, numbing sensations or redness. Patients can resume their regularly scheduled activities and you’ll even be able to wear a bikini immediately after treatment! That said, it is common for patients to report a similar soreness that you would feel after an intense exercise in the muscle group that was treated.

6. EMSCULPT vs CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting, one of the first noninvasive, fat-eliminating treatments introduced to the market. It uses controlled cooling to permanently freeze fat cells on the stomach, under the chin, bra fat and under the buttocks. By contrast, EMSCULPT helps build muscles and tones the body. A common misconception is that they do the same thing or that one replaces the other. While these procedures can be used separately, patients have benefited significantly from using both treatments.

7. How Many EMSCULPT Treatments Will I Need?

In order to see optimal results, four treatments are recommended and every treatment should be given within a couple of days of each other. Just like you wouldn’t go to a gym only once to see results, you can’t stop at just one EMSCULPT treatment. Many patients use EMSCULPT to supplement their existing workouts. For example, if you are doing a lot of cardio like running and cycling, you might consider doing EMSCULPT on your glutes between runs/rides to increase your muscle in your legs.

8. How Much Does EMSCULPT Cost?

Since four treatments are recommended over a two-week span, you can expect to pay $2,000 to $3,000 depending on the provider.

9. What Celebrities Use EMSCULPT

EMSCULPT spokeswoman Drew Barrymore began treatments to specifically help with conditioning. She explains that her main reason for choosing EMSCULPT was to “exercise regularly without injury.” On the show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kim Kardashian was seen getting an EMSCULPT treatment on her abs. ““It feels like you’re doing stomach crunches, but you’re not. I’m into it.” Additionally, Robert Gronkowski former Tight End for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers used EMSCULPT during his brief retirement to stay in shape.

10. When Will I See My EMSCULPT Results?

Be patient. You might not see results until about two to three weeks after four treatments. But you’ll be able to show off your toned midriff and sculpted booty in no time!
