What Exactly Does Profound Do?
Profound is a clinically proven way to recreate and restore the skin’s building blocks using non-invasive laser techniques. Profound rebuilds elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Profound uses a gentle, heat-based procedure that encourages the body to naturally produce greater ammounts of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the treated area. Radiofrequency is used to deliver energy to specific areas of tissue that need more volume. Patients will see a significant transformation around their legs, inner thighs, hips, and buttocks. Stretch marks caused by pregnancy will become less noticiable as the skin rebuilds itself in the treated area.
While Profound can be used on numerous areas of the body, it is typically performed around the face and the upper thigh area. To determine which areas you should target, book a complimentary consultation at either our Hyannis, Sandwich, Falmouth, or Plymouth offices to discuss your goals with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Jones or Dr. Loffredo.
The Profound treatment can vary depending on the area of the body being treated and the patient’s goals. However, Profound usually takes 45 minutes or less.
Profound technology utilizes 10 small needles that are equipped with an electrode that injects radiofrequency energy into the skin. This protects the top layer of skin so that it is not be damaged or scarred. A topical anesthetic is used prior to treatment to increase comfort. After the topical anesthetic is applied the Profound device is gently moved across the treated area, while pulses of energy are delivered (lasting 3 seconds each). Some patients report minimal pain caused by the Profound. We provide a numbing cream prior to treatment. After the procedure is completed, it is not uncommon to feel a little amount of discomfort for a few hours.
Patients typically see results 2-4 weeks post-treatment and see their best results after 6 months. However, as skin gets older, patients will need to get Profound treatments every few years to continue to treat the affected areas.
Most commonly, patients will only need one Profoudn treatment. However, depending on the treatment area and your goals from the Profound procedure, it can take more than one treatment. Our doctors will consult with you to determine the most effective plan.
