How Often Should You Get Injectables?

Patients who want to maintain their injectable results often ask us, “How often do I need to schedule touch-ups or maintenance appointments?” The answer can depend on a few factors. Most importantly, the type of injectable we are talking about has the largest impact on how long you will see your results and how often you might want to schedule touch-up appointments.

Beyond that, the area where you were treated, your aesthetic goals, and even your metabolism can all impact how long your results will last. For example, many patients who receive filler in the lips will need to schedule follow-ups around 6-9 months afterward, while patients who receive jawline filler might schedule closer to once a year. In this guide, we will cover some of the common injectable timelines, the injectables known for lasting the longest, and some advice on how to maintain your results. Fillers vs Botox Timeline

Botox Cosmetic Injection Timeline

Typically, patients will notice their Botox Cosmetic results in 3-5 days after their treatment, with their full results appearing weeks later. Here is a breakdown of the Botox Cosmetic timeline:

  • Days 1-2: Patients tend to report minor bruising or swelling, and results are not yet visible.
  • Days 3-5: Patients will notice initial results as symptoms like swelling dissipate.
  • 1-2 Weeks: Patients will notice their full results as wrinkles and lines are fully smoothed.
  • 3-4 months: The results you saw at 1-2 weeks stay at their best, but will begin to diminish as muscle movement causes wrinkles and lines to reform.
  • 4-6 months: Wrinkles and lines begin to reappear, and patients usually set up touch-up appointments with their provider.

Filler Injection Timelines

For fillers like the Juvéderm collection, there are immediate, noticeable results, with the final results appearing in 1-2 weeks, like Botox Cosmetic. Longevity varies based on the product.

  • Day 1: Patients experience redness, bruising, and/or swelling around the injection sites.
  • Day 2-7: Swelling and bruising fade, and the treated area will look more natural, as the filler fully integrates with the tissue.
  • 1-2 Weeks: Patients see their full results by the two-week point.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Different filler products have different longevities, approximately from 1 to 2 years, depending on the treatment and the area that was treated. Patients tend to schedule follow-ups after a year.

What Injectables Last The Longest?

There are a variety of injectables that are known for their long-lasting results, including:

DAXXIFY : DAXXIFY works like Botox Cosmetic, Xeomin, and other injectables that rely on neurotoxins to decrease muscle movement and improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. While Botox Cosmetic lasts around six months, many patients report that their DAXXIFY results last up to 9 months.

Juvederm Voluma XC: Within the Juvéderm collection, Voluma XC is reported to last the longest at two years. Across the collection, Juvéderm fillers last anywhere from 1 year to 2 years, depending on the specific formula you receive, the treatment site, your individual metabolism, and your lifestyle habits.

Radiesse: On average, patients report that their Radiesse injection results last between 12 and 18 months. Of course, like other fillers, some factors can impact how long your results last, including age & health.

How Can You Make Your Botox & Fillers Results Last Longer?

Aftercare is key to maintaining your Botox & Filler results. Immediately after an injectable treatment, make sure to follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your provider. Avoid strenuous exercise, avoid touching/rubbing the treated areas, and sleep on your back to avoid placing pressure on your face.

Your lifestyle also impacts your results. Staying hydrated, protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen, and eating a healthy diet can all help improve the longevity of your results.

Many patients also pursue touch-up treatments. Regular touch-ups can help you maintain your results overtime.
