When Should You Consider Botox & Fillers

Home When Should You Consider Botox & Fillers

Botox injections provide many benefits to patients. Although Botox is most well known for facial injections that undo aging effects including wrinkles and creases on the face, Botox actually can be used to prevent the formation of wrinkles and creases in the first place. Botox and fillers can keep skin looking young and healthy longer!

Should You Get Preventative Botox?

It’s becoming increasingly more common that people are starting botox injections at younger ages, for preventative reasons. The FDA has regulated that Botox injections can be used for anyone 18 years or older, and many patients are starting botox treatment in their 20s and early 30s. Many dermatologists recommend Botox injections along with other good skin care routines for patients who want to avoid wrinkles and creases forming. Instead of waiting for wrinkles to form, many men and women are choosing to use Botox to prevent wrinkles early on. If you want to prevent wrinkles and creases from forming, you should talk to a doctor about preventative botox injections.

How Often Do You Need Botox Injections?

The need for recurring Botox injections is different from person to person. Generally speaking, Botox injections last for four months. However, it is has been seen that patients who get preventative Botox in their 20s and 30s need injections less frequently to maintain their face and protect from wrinkles. If a patient who wants to prevent wrinkles is proactive with other skin care methods, they can expect to need Botox treatments closer to 6 months to a year.

Botox Vs Fillers

Botox works by preventing or minimizing facial wrinkles and creases that form from muscle movement. However, Botox does not help correct facial sagging or scars. To correct fix drooping around the eyes & cheeks, thin lips, or smooth out scars, patients can use dermal fillers. Dermal filler injections add volume or smooth out areas around the face. Unlike Botox, which can be used to prevent wrinkles, dermal filler injections are not used as preventative skin care options.
