Busting Common Myths About Plastic Surgery
It’s #mythbusting time here at CIPS! Every so often we like to set the record straight on some common misconceptions regarding plastic surgery and injectables. We have heard these and many more in our consultations and conversations over the years, and I’m sure you have too. Below you will find the truth behind a few common myths that we hear all the time!
Men don’t get cosmetic procedures
As we’ve said before, we see a lot of men here at CIPS! Whether for Botox, EMSCULPT or plastic surgery, males are becoming increasingly more likely to get a cosmetic procedure done. In this very digital and very visual world, men may be catching on to the trend of looking “Zoom ready” everyday – which we are happy to help with!
Botox Will Make You Expressionless
If done correctly, you will NOT have a frozen face or no expression. That is the result of getting too many units. If you come see one of our highly skilled Master Injectors Nurse Zara or Nurse Kelly, they will make sure they get the units just right. Remember, you can always add units and do touch-ups, but you can’t “undo” Botox!
You Must Be Rich to Get Plastic Surgery or Cosmetic Procedures
You may be surprised to learn that many treatments are more affordable than you think, and we also offer payment plans and financing options. There are many ways to save on non-surgical procedures too, like signing up for Alle’s rewards program and watching our page for specials throughout the year. Depending on the procedure and patient’s health, certain procedures may even be covered by your health insurance, such as a breast reduction for medical reasons.
Plastic Surgery Will Leave Bad Scars
If done correctly by a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon (both Dr. Loffredo and Dr. Jones are Board Certified Plastic Surgeons) scarring should be minimal with proper aftercare. If you have scarring concerns, you should address them in your consultation which is where your surgeon should explain things in detail and give you honest information regarding pain, healing and scarring.
All Doctors are Equal When It Comes to Plastic Surgery
This is a common misconception that we strongly recommend patients be aware of. There is a big difference between a “Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon” and a “Board Certified Plastic Surgeon!”
“Board Certified in Plastic Surgery” means that a surgeon has been awarded Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Board Certification in Plastic Surgery is awarded only after finishing a formal residency in Plastic Surgery (typically a minimum of six years) and passing a rigorous written and oral examination which includes cases from a surgeon’s own practice. Board Certification in Plastic Surgery can only be awarded by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Both Dr. Michael Loffredo and Dr. Seth Jones are Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, having completed their six-year residency together at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by prestigious and specialized fellowships before opening their practice together in 2011.
Experience is also crucial when it comes to Plastic Surgery, so it’s a good idea to ask how many times your surgeon has performed this procedure.
