Breaking Down the Differences Between Botox and DAXXIFY
For years, Botox has been the most well-known injectable for fighting wrinkles, but DAXXIFY may change the game for the first time in decades.
DAXXIFY is the latest neuromodulator to receive FDA approval for the treatment of wrinkles, joining the ranks of Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. However, DAXXIFY differs from the existing neurotoxins in that it uses peptide exchange technology in its formulation rather than botulinum toxin type A, which is what the others use. This new technology allows for results to last longer than its predecessors, potentially up to twice as long.
The major difference between DAXXIFY and other neuromodulators is the duration of results, with most patients reporting their results are still visible for up to 6 months. According to the manufacturer, Revance, side effects of DAXXIFY are also minimal.
How Do I Choose Between DAXXIFY & Botox
When deciding between Botox and DAXXIFY, here are a few keep points to keep in mind:
Because the results of DAXXIFY can last up to 6 months, it may be more appropriate for those who’ve tried other injectables in the past and have been happy with the outcome. In other words, if you are trying injectables for the first time, you may want to go with one that fades quicker on the off chance that you are unhappy with your results. Once your preferred pattern of treatment is established, then DAXXIFY may be right for you!
Glamour recently published an article with the following scenario as an example of why someone might prefer one treatment over another:
DAXXIFY is not necessarily “better” than Botox; some patients actually prefer their wrinkle treatment of choice to fade quicker so the results are more customizable. “I had a husband and wife come in, and the husband insisted on DAXXIFY, while the wife said, ‘No, I don't want it to last longer; I don't mind coming in a bit more frequently,’” Dr. Shridharani says. “But his mindset was ‘It's hard for me to come in, I'm really busy, so if it kicks in a little bit stronger and lasts longer, I'm game.’ So it's interesting how even in the same household people can have differing aesthetic goals.”
Another factor to consider is cost. DAXXIFY may cost more per treatment, but since the results can last much longer, it may be a worthy investment.
