For men 55 years and older, it is common to have loose neck skin under the chin. This neck skin is sometimes colloquially referred to as a “turkey neck”. A direct excision necklift is a surgical procedure where the excess skin is removed. This is a less involved surgical treatment than a full facelift and has a faster recovery time. Guide to Direct Excision Neck Lift Surgery
During a consultation, our surgeons will determine if this procedure is right for your goals, or will help match you with other treatments we provide if there is a better fit. This treatment is done with local anesthesia and mild sedation. Dr. Loffredo or Dr. Jones will perform the surgery and will expertly place the incision so that any scarring is barely visible. After the incision is made, underlying fat is excised, and loose skin is removed from the neck area.
Post-Care & Recovery Timelines for Neck Lift Surgery
Compared to other surgical procedures, a direct excision neck lift has a shorter recovery time. Generally, patients will have a short healing phase for the first week after their surgery. During this time, we will schedule a follow-up visit. Around two to three weeks after your surgery, you are usually able to return to work and other day-to-day activities, but still need to avoid heavy lifting or exercise. Then, around four to six weeks after your surgery, you should have completed your overall healing. In terms of results, most patients notice their full results between two and six months after their surgery.
